Children Underground is an Academy Award-nominated 2001 documentary about a group of Romanian street children, aged eight to sixteen, who live in the subway system of Bucharest. One of the children, who appear to be an aggressive older boy, is actually a girl who decided it would be easier to survive on the streets that way. Common for all of the children is their huffing of paint, and troubled backgrounds.
The documentary tells their stories compellingly and effectively in spite of its complete lack of narration.
